I recently participated to the Lego Ideas “Super Science” Challenge!
Space, the final frontier.
Space travel and space colonization of distant planets is one of the next evolution of humankind.
As a space enjoyer, my idea of Super Science is yet a reachable science : Colony Ship. The fact that, some day, civilizations will be able to discover new worlds is a very exciting concept !
Considering my love and interest for space and science-fiction, my goal was to build a large ship inspired by different sci-fi universes!
Colony Ships will become the greatest achievement in human research, as it depends on multiple technological innovations :
- Powerful reactors in order to travel at a sufficient speed.
- Cryogenics Pods, to preserve humans and wake them up upon arrival.
- Embryos Storage, for a fast and efficient long term space colonization (just make sure no Android stores alien embryos in there !)
- Gyroscopic section, to get some normal gravity !
- Space shuttles, for easy in and out shifts to the planet nearby.
- Large golden Solar sails to generate energy and some thrust thanks to the power of the sun
- and of course, powerful communications !
I made sure to integrate as much playability as possible : detachable space shuttles, movable engineering arms, rotatable gyroscope. The large container can be opened from the front and top to access easily, and you can install a minifig inside the cryogenic pods.
The model can also be displayed easily with stands.
